Albuquerque

Albuquerque, New Mexico is at the crossroads of central New Mexico, where Interstate 40 intersects Interstate 25. The largest city in New Mexico, it lies on a plain along the banks of the Rio Grande River, at the base of the Sandia Mountains to the east. Albuquerque represents a synergy of Native American, Hispanic and Anglo cultures where traditional and modern cultures coexist. A number of Indian Reservations and Pueblos exist in and near the city. The Native American culture is probably the most deeply rooted of the many branches that make up the diverse ethnic and cultural environment of New Mexico. The Anasazi Indians were virtually the first identifiable inhabitants of the Southwest. They have bestowed a legacy of kivas, cliff dwellings and traditional arts and crafts. Today, a wide variety of Native American culture is available at the 19 Indian pueblos that lie within the boundaries of New Mexico. Indigenous arts and crafts are still widely practiced in New Mexico's pueblos, and you can almost always find native crafts people selling their wares. (Whenever possible, remember to check in at the tribal office before venturing out into the pueblo.) Ritual dancing, pow-wows, and feast days are a large part of Indian culture. Some of the dances are traditional, dating back to long before the arrival of Europeans in America; others re-enact a variety of events that took place during the uneasy early stages of European-Native American relations. One excellent way to orient yourself before any visit to a pueblo is to tour the Indian Pueblo Cultural Centre in northwest Albuquerque. Open seven days a week, the centre offers a huge range of exhibits, performances, and information on Native American culture in general, and Pueblo Indians in particular. Of the centre’s many components (children's museum, gift shop, bookstore, restaurant), only the museum charges admission. Weekend performances of Native American dances, demonstrations of arts and crafts, and a variety of year-round special events are free to the public.

 

 

Anchorage

Anchorage, Alaska, is a vibrant, eclectic metropolis with a frontier spirit, located in the heart of great Alaska wilderness. Anchorage experiences are larger-than-life. From wildlife viewing opportunities right in the city to an abundance of outdoor adventures, your days will be filled with big wild memories to last a lifetime! Billings

From 2014, travellers from overseas will be able to explore the National Parks, and other sites of America’s historic West, by motorhomes collected much closer to the places they’ve come to see.

Billings, Montana, is by far the closest international rental station to the magnificent Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Glacier National Parks; to General Custer’s Little Big Horn; Wild Bill and Calamity Jane’s Deadwood; Buffalo Bill’s Cody and the many more scenic and historic sites.

Yellowstone was created as America’s, and probably the world’s, first national park in 1872: twenty years before surrounding Montana, Wyoming and Idaho even became States. Millions of visitors come each year to experience the unique combination of stunning Rocky Mountain scenery; three hundred and ninety-four species of fauna and the world’s largest concentration of geysers. Indeed, among thousands of colourful hot springs, it is home to half of the world's total number of geysers in its nine basins.

The northeast park entrance at Silver Gate is just over 100 miles and could be only a couple of hours from Billings. Most people, though. will take far longer experiencing what has been called "the most beautiful drive in America” rising to very nearly 11,000 feet or 3,350 metres. The scenery is jaw-dropping so it’s a good idea to stop frequently to admire it but then keep your eyes firmly on a road that switch-backs down to Yellowstone. The gentler alternative is the four hour drive, plus time well spent exploring Buffalo Bill’s Cody, before arriving at Yellowstone’s East Entrance.

Leaving Yellowstone to the south takes the driver directly into Grand Teton National Park. Rising up to 13,775 feet or 4,200 metres, these are ‘new’ mountains rising abruptly without foothills. Those with a knowledge of the language will understand how the name of the range is cautiously attributed to early French Canadian trappers. Just south of the Grand Tetons is world famous resort, Jackson Hole.

To the east of Billings, it’s only an hour’s drive to The Little Big Horn Battlefield where General Custer encountered Sitting Bull’s and Crazy Horse’s warriors and suffered what has been described as the worst American military disaster ever.

According to her story, another iconic name from America’s west had, six years earlier, joined General Custer’s forces as a scout. Illness caused Calamity Jane to leave Custer only weeks before his death. On her way from hospital, she says she met ‘Wild’ Bill Hickock and they moved on together to Deadwood. The saloon where he was famously shot, and the graves of both Calamity and Wild Bill, are to be found in this old western town. Deadwood is under three hundred miles from Billings, a drive of about four hours. Along the way is The Devil’s Tower, the backdrop to the movie Close Encounters.

Going north out of Billings, Glacier National Park is less than a five hour drive. Glacier eventually merges with Canada’s Waterton Lakes to form the Waterton Glacier Peace Park. Though much of Glacier’s spectacular ‘Going to the Sun’ road is not available to motorhomes the drive alongside the Rocky Mountains is memorably rewarding and should form part of a quite amazing tour taking advantage of this new motorhome rental station

Boston

There are tours designed just for little feet and tours for tired feet on trolleys and "ducks.” You can take the liberty of exploring the Freedom Trail in whatever manner you choose-starting and ending wherever you want. The Black Heritage Trail can also be tailored to meet your family’s needs. Maybe it’s pedal-powered tours that suit your family. Bikes, helmets and water are all available-with or without guides. Like fast rides and great views? Take Skywalk elevator – up 50 floors in 32 seconds- for incredible views of Boston and beyond.

Miami

Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida are an ideal kick of place for visiting the Florida Keys………. The Florida Keys and Key West are a world away from the theme parks of Central Florida and a great place to take an RV itinerary. The Florida Keys (Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, The Lower Keys & Key West) sit at the tip of Florida, the Sunshine State. This 150-mile long string of islands linked together by 43 bridges is one of American's top 10 scenic drives; the Overseas Highway (U.S. 1). But there is much more of south Florida to see………

 

Orlando

Orlando, Florida is much, much, more than DisneyWorld! Obviously the greatest theme park in the work MUST be visited…. The Magic Kingdom, EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow), MGM Studios……….. so much to see and so little time! Then add the thrills and spills of Universal Studios, the amazing Sea World……….. and hundreds of smaller attractions from an Alligator Farm to Pirates of the Caribbean; crazy golf to fabulous evening show dinners including two of our favorites, the Dolly Parton Theatre and Arabian Nights. There are some very special golf courses including Arnie Palmers Bay Hill, where you will often meet Mr Palmer having breakfast. The biggest Walmart in America is right there at the end of Route 192….. on your route north to Lakeland, Ocala and the Florida Panhandle. Or you may choose to go east toward Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center and Cocoa Beach; or west toward Tampa Bay and the beaches of Clearwater, St Petersburg and Sarasota. Then again maybe Miami, Miami Beach and the Florida Keys are your destination. Whichever, Orlando is a great place to start!

 

 

Tampa

TAMPA, FLORIDA: There’s a sunny side to this West Coast community that makes it a true hot spot among the world’s destinations. Naturally there’s lots of water and sunshine. But you’ll also discover an area that’s full of rich arts, professional sports, sights to see and things to do you won’t find anywhere else. Whatever your pleasure, you'll find it in Tampa Bay so do plan to spend a few days before setting off in your RV!

Portland

Portland, Oregon where amazing things are happening! Creative things. Outlandish things. Beautiful things. Portland’s arts and culture scene has taken an exhilarating turn in recent years, garnering worldwide attention for its meld of enriched classical institutions and innovative new venues, with an influx of young creatives to feed them all. Whether in Portland’s official Cultural District downtown, a transfigured warehouse in the trendy Pearl District, or an emerging neighbourhood on the east side, Portland offers opportunities to simply dabble, or to fully immerse yourself in the best of Northwest arts and heritage. Drive just about ten minutes north of Portland on Highway 30, and you’ll feel that you’ve left the city behind. Before you lay wetlands, wildlife preserves and farms. Columbia County is Portland’s nearest escape. From kayaking at Scappoose Bay to mountain biking at the Vernonia skills park, this haven for outdoor enthusiasts offers breathtaking scenery, wildlife viewing and small town Oregon appeal. Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah combines the amenities of a large metro area with the opportunity to take advantage of year round outdoor recreation within minutes in every direction. An attractive, safe, and growing city, Salt Lake offers unequalled views, a thriving economy, exciting nightlife, remarkable history and the warm hospitality of a small western town. Salt Lake is an incredible destination for patrons of the performing arts with: Ballet West, Utah Opera Company, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Repertory Dance Theatre, Mormon Tabernacle Choir, The Utah Symphony, Numerous theatre groups and over twenty art galleries are within minutes of downtown hotels. Salt Lake is located in northern Utah and sits in a large valley between two mountain ranges, the Wasatch on the east side and the Oquirrhs to the west. Salt Lake City is the Utah state capital and seat of Salt Lake County. Located in the north central part of the state, it is 24 km (15 miles) east of the Great Salt Lake, and is situated along the western slope of the Wasatch Mountain Range. The Salt Lake Valley was once part of ancient Lake Bonneville. Now, only a few rivers pass through our city. Salt Lake City is the worldwide headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Salt Lake is Utah's largest city in a large region of the interior West and serves as the industrial, financial, and commercial centre of Utah.

 

 

San Francisco

San Francisco, California is one of the world's top travel destinations, with its famous tourist attractions and eclectic neighbourhoods. Alcatraz Island offers a glimpse into a unique piece of history (and a terrific view of San Francisco Bay). Fisherman's Wharf rings with the barking of seals and brims with the world's finest Dungeness crab restaurants. North Beach's Italian flavour sidles up next to Chinatown, while Union Square and Haight-Ashbury entice with diverse shopping opportunities. Just beyond San Francisco, the Napa and Sonoma wine country beckons with rolling vineyards and award-winning wineries. San Francisco has a music scene that is the envy of the world—and a bar, lounge or club for every taste. Seattle

Seattle, Washington State is anything but ordinary. It's a place where bike messengers share elevators with world-renowned researchers; where fishermen have lunch alongside top surgeons. It's a city where the extraordinary is commonplace and commonplace is anything but. And if you look closely, you just might discover that in Seattle there are amazing things happening all around you. From a jet engine to an espresso machine to grunge rock, Seattle's world-changing events have all had a distinct sound. But the symphony doesn't end there. Your visit to Seattle may bring you the sound of an orca blowing as it surfaces, the roar of the crowd at Safeco Field or the near silence of the Olympic rainforest. Come to Seattle and hear for yourself. When you’ve seen the variety the city has to offer, head off to Mount Rainier and the other amazing scenes of Northwest USA. TEXAS

 

 

Houston - and now DALLAS

HOUSTON, TEXAS: The fourth largest city in the United States is also one of the most culturally-rich cities in the nation. Home to this respected and energetic cultural arts scene, the city is also jam-packed with more than 8,000 tempting restaurants that feature culinary flavours from more than 35 countries. From the oldest African-American theatre in the Southwest to the brains behind United States space exploration, Houston is as diverse a city as they come. Plus, they make it easy to get around on the convenient METRO-Rail which connects downtown with the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center and Reliant Park.

With nearly 21,000 concerts, plays, exhibitions and other arts programs presented in Houston annually, residents and visitors have access to a wide variety of cultural programs. On any given night, it's a safe bet that it's showtime somewhere in Houston's Theater District. More than 2 million people visit the Downtown area each year to attend one of the city's world-class performances. The 17-block area is home to Houston's year-round resident companies including the symphony, opera, drama and ballet. Tucked between the bustling Midtown and Medical Center areas, rests Houston's leafy, park-filled and peaceful Museum District. Eighteen world-class institutions, including the Menil Collection, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Houston Museum of Natural Science exist in the area, drawing a reported seven million visitors to the district each year. With 56,405 acres of total park space, Houston rates first among the nation’s 10 most populous cities in total acreage of park land. Washington DC

Washington, D.C. formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States founded on July 16, 1790. The city shares its name with the U.S. state of Washington, which is located on the country's Pacific coast. The city is located on the north bank of the Potomac River and is bordered by the states of Virginia to the southwest and Maryland to the other sides. The District has a resident population of 599,657; because of commuters from the surrounding suburbs, its population rises to over one million during the workweek. The centers of all three branches of the federal government of the United States are located in the District, as are many of the nation's monuments and museums. Washington, D.C. hosts 174 foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The headquarters of other institutions such as trade unions, lobbying groups, and professional associations are also located in the District.

 

CANADA

Calgary

Calgary, Alberta is an attractive and dynamic city situated on the banks of the Bow River and close to Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains. The host city of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games takes pride in its sporting legacy. Canada Olympic Park is a multi-purpose athletic facility designed for skiing, snowboarding, bobsleigh and luge during the winter and mountain biking during the summer.

The Pengrowth Saddledome is the home of the NHL's Calgary Flames, as well as being the venue for countless events and concerts throughout the year. Other attractions, including the Glenbow Museum, Calgary Tower and Eau Claire Market are other great places to visit year-round. Visit the surrounding areas of Edmonton, Kananaskis Country, Canmore, Banff, Bragg Creek and Drumheller and Lake Louise are all attractions near Calgary. The Calgary Stampede is undoubtedly Calgary's best-known visitor attraction. This event, featuring a large parade and world-class rodeo, draws more than a million people each year. Each year visitors from around the world come to Calgary to partake in the annual event. Enjoy real rodeos, a midway, shows, and much, much, more. The city of Calgary is transformed for ten days into town celebrating the cowboy culture. Visitors will enjoy the atmosphere and friendly attitude of the locals. Halifax

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia We'd like to introduce you to the exciting variety of sights, attractions and people that make up the Halifax region. Nature has blessed this area with sandy beaches, rugged shorelines and colourful gardens. This fine location was the site of the first British town in Canada, founded in 1749. Vancouver

Vancouver, British Columbia is truly one of the world's most beautiful and most perfect places to visit or live. Whitehorse

Whitehorse. Yukon is the gateway and capital city to the Yukon, a massive region of spectacular unspoiled natural beauty and It only grew from being a Gold Rush prospectors’ village when construction of the Alaska Highway began less than seventy years ago. You can now cruise the Whitehorse Rapids and Miles Canyon with ease but the city now stands where gold seekers’ craft were destroyed on their way towards the gold rich Klondike. The classic Yukon tour takes you north towards Bonanza Creek, destination of the 1898 Klondike Stampede before turning on the Top of the World Highway and so to the Alaska Highway passing through part of the USA. Be aware that travel on all public and/or number roads is permissible but travel on ‘logging’ roads or roads with hazardous surfaces, is not.
